We WON something!¨+ request

We are the proud winners of the cool POOP CANDLE from Patience and the Waggle!

(P - if we're not allowed to steal your poo picture, please let me know!)

I also have a request... One of Mom's subjects this semester is American culture and part of what they're going through is geograpy, the states/mountains/rivers etcetera.. Sooo.. I thought if those of you living in the US would bother to tell a bit about your region Mom would be able to learn something (while reading blogs rather than studying) and having some more connections to the various places.

For instance - Mom's only knowledge of Kentucky is that it contains the city of Paducah(with an artist relocation programme), nine wonderful whippets and a brillient writer. ;)

The little curlie have been approaching me more lately - he's even come up to me and pawed my legs a couple of times.. Maybe he want to play..

Kisses, Bajas!

Woof, Bajas!

I live in Colorado, which is in the Western United States. We are one of the "greenest" states in the nation, as well as being one of the healthiest (low obesity rate, low heart disease, high activity, etc.). A prominent feature here are the gorgeous Rocky Mountains, which take up half of the state.

To be honest, only the "mountainous" half is what people usually think of when they think of Colorado-- a kind of yuppie California mentality. Skiing is HUGE here, as are micro-breweries for beer and other homemade alcohol. The other half of the state is wind-swept desolate prairie and semi-desert. It has more in common with the "Western" mentality-- ranches, cattle, horses, very slow pace, subsistence life, and often very backward ways of living (i.e., polygamist compounds). This mindset is more typical of the Western states Arizona, New Mexico, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, and Montana.

send my Dad an email at westiepug[at]gmail[dot]com if you want anything more!

I just realized that Virus looks a lot like Pixie did when she was a baby!

We live in south Florida. Florida is a peninsula surrounded by water, with the Gulf of Mexico on the west and the Atlantic ocean on the East. It has very warm, tropical weather almost year-round. Florida is the lightning capital of the country! We get many hurricanes and tropical storms, too! And lots of alligators live here, even one in the lake behind my backyard. I live less than a mile from the Florida Everglades.

Okay! We can do that. New Hampshire is called The Granite State! Because there is so much grantite to be found. NH was the home of the poet Robert Frost. Carleton Fisk, a famous Red Sox player is from NH. Ken Burns, the acclaimed film maker is from NH. J.D. Salinger & Masfield Parrish are also NH-ites.
Mount Washington has the world's highest recorded winds, and is know for some of the worst weather in the WORLD. Many of the mountains in NH are above snow line, so that is why we are the White Mountain state, and Vermont is the Green Mountain state. (Vert means green in french and mont is mountain. Vermont!
NH has four distinctive seasons, and the local saying is if you don't like the weather, wait a minute, it will change. We have mountains, lakes and a very small coastline. Some areas of the state get walloped by snow, while others get a dusting. We've had tornados, hurricanes, and blizzards. It can be very hot and humid in the summer and then the temperature can drop 30 degrees and be great. We almost always get an "Indian summer" in the fall, (a mini heat wave) so no one every takes their a/c units out til October.
:)
Hope this helps.

Hi Anie,

We live in Virginia, in the US. It is the site of the first English Colony in the United States. We are on the middle of the east coast, next to the Blue Ridge mountain range, which is part of the Appalachian Mountain range. They call them the Blue Ridge mountains, because the air looks smoky and blue at a distance when you look at them.

Hugs,

Erin, Rose, and Scarlett from WW

We can tell you all about Arizona if you'd like. We are in the SouthWest US and the state is mostly desert. We do have a region called the 'high country' where we have mountains full of pine trees and they even get snow in the winter. SO in the winter you can be in snow then drive 2 hours and be in 65 degree F!

We have the Grand Canyon and we also have a lot of reservations (areas of land designated where they can live for free) for the Native Americans. They run Casinos on the Res as a way to make money.

Our capital is Phoenix, and I live right by it!

Yikes! American culture sure is a big nut to swallow because momma says that different places are like different countries around here.

I will think on Boston culture and see what I come up with.
